Professional Expertise

I. DataBase Management

  • Started relational database design and implementation in 1995 with MS Access97 to design a flower ordering system  as a project for Tehran Polytechnic University. • Developed a database for Corrective and Preventive Action by MS Access in 1998  for Ava Pardaz Computer Consulting Company, Tehran, Iran

  • Developed a relational database for Publishers at the USC Gerontology Library

  • Completed and updated myself in the following fields in 2000 by taking Data Base Management MBA course offered by Professor Douglas Shook:

    • Data Definition Language (DDLs) and Data Manipulation Language (DMLs) using Structured Query Language (SQL)

    • Conceptual , physical and logical data modeling

    • Physical implementation and optimization of relational databases via Oracle 8i

II. Web-based Computing

  • Started web site design and development via MS Frontpage on 2000

  • Developed client applications for web-based computing:

    • Client side static using HTML

    • Client side dynamic using JavaScript

  • Developed server applications for web-based computing:

    • Database applications using Structured Query Language (SQL)

    • Server side applications using idc/htx

  • General knowledge of Networking and Internetworking as applied to web-based computing

  • Presentation: Peer to Peer File Sharing , showing how Lime wire is taking the place of Napster

  • Group Work: Working on the criteria for evaluation of web-enabled software for CRM

III. Data Mining and Warehousing

IV. Supply Chain Management and Quality

  • Worked in Sapco as TQM Consultant and dealt with Quality issues in Supply Chain of Automotive industry for the first time and how it might affect the whole delivery process of orders.

  • Knowledge of the following:

    • Inventory issues and affect of different ordering systems on inventory issues

    • Bull-whip effect and how to avoid it

    • Material Resource Planning (MRP) and MRPII

    • Production Systems: JIT, OPT

    • Forecasting in Production Planning

    • Using linear programming in manufacturing optimization problems

  • Implemented some Total Quality Management (TQM) techniques: Statistical Process Control and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis in Shetabkar Co. , Iran.

  • Experience with documentation and auditing for ISO-9000 and QS-9000. I worked in RW-TUV and got the Lead Auditor ISO-9000 Certificate.

  • Did a supply chain analysis on Actionmed company. An American company distributing gloves all over the United States. The report is available upon request.

V.Knowledge Management

  • Knowledge of challenges in changing an e-business plan into a working one, the factors to be considered and the risks  involved: Building Your Own E-Business

  • Knowledge of Business Process Reengineering (BPR) for E-business

  • Knowledge of  Managing Corporate Knowledge Assets, applied Knowledge Value Added (KVA) method to Advanced Sterilization Products Company, Johnson and Johnson, Irvine. The aim was to reduce costs by means of this method. The report is available upon request.

  • Data Resource Management

VI. Project Management

  • Knowledge of fundamentals of Project Management. I have applied MS Project in managing the Statistical Process Control method on Typette  production line while working as a TQM consultant in Shetabkar.

VII. Performance Analysis

  • Knowledge of breaking down the work into small segments to assign the human resources properly and be able to have the maximum performance. A sample report on the IT section of a manufacturing firm is available upon request.

VIII. Business Plan Preparation

  • Knowledge of preparing business plan for investment purposes. I Prepared Business Plan for ZRDesign company, Los Angels, in 2000 and proposed Relationship Marketing based on their type of business.

IX. Statistics

X. Economic Systems Engineering

My main focus has been on using quantitative methods to solve social and economic problems through a systematic approach. Looking at the socio-economic problems in this fashion is a new multidisciplinary subject , introduced by Stanford University in 1978 for the first time.

  • I have worked on the following research projects in Tehran Polytechnic University. The emphasis has been on integrating the mathematical models and methods to solve socio-economic problems:

Also, I have used System Dynamics technique in my Master's thesis. The title is: " Urban Dynamaics of Population, Housing and Employment in a Populated City in Iran (Esfehen). The model proposed in my thesis cab be used to see and analyze the effects of any policy in the long run before it is actually taken into action . I have used continuous simulation technique and Vensim software.

XI. Operations Research

  • I am familiar with the following  OR techniques:
    • Formulation, solving and analyzing an optimization problems.
    • Integer Programming and its algorithms
    • Network flows and its applications e.g. in transportation
    • Dynamic Programming
    • Linear and Non linear programming and software e.g. GAMS and LINDO
    • Advanced linear programming algorithms

I have done a project on optimizing the vulnerability degree of different regions of Tehran against earthquake by means of OR techniques.

XII. Engineering Economy

This especialty has enabled me to understand a bit of the economic system os United States. It is very much based on taxes and depreciation costs plus capital financing and these are the stuff that I had never dealt with back in my country. I confronted using them when I was preparing the business plan for ZRDesign Company and I needed these methods to be able to come up with some sound financial calculations for the investors on how they will have their money back if they invest in that company and seems that I did not do a bad job as the company is still running despite the slow down of economy in 2001!

I am familiar with the following subjects:

  •  Money-Time relationships: Discrete and continuous cash flows together with interest calculations
  • Applications of money-time relationships: IRR, ERR,PW, AWA, FW
  • Comparing alternatives for engineering projects
  • Evaluating projects with Benefit/Cost ratio Method
  • Depreciation and Income taxes
  • Estimating cash flows
  • Inflation and its effect on prices
  • Replacement analysis for manufacturing environments
  • Capital financing and allocation
